Kalungu Advances Digital Inclusion Through UCC Pilot Programme

Kalungu District Local Government is advancing digital inclusion through a pilot programme implemented by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) in Kalongo Village, Kalungu Sub-County.

As part of the initiative, more than 150 residents received internet-enabled tablets to support access to digital services, information and online opportunities. The beneficiaries were also provided with six months of free internet connectivity to enable them to put the devices to practical use.

The programme also included a digital-skilling week that commenced on 8 August 2026, equipping community members with practical knowledge in areas such as internet use, password management, online security, browsing and digital content creation.

The initiative is aimed at reducing the digital divide and enabling communities to take advantage of technology for education, communication, access to information and socio-economic opportunities.

The UCC pilot positions Kalungu among the communities being supported to demonstrate how improved access to digital devices, connectivity and digital skills can contribute to inclusive development.

Kalungu District Local Government appreciates UCC and its partners for supporting digital transformation and remains committed to promoting initiatives that expand access to technology and strengthen digital skills among residents.
