Kalungu District Local Government has strengthened community-level health service delivery through the training and deployment of 74 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) across the district’s 37 parishes.

The initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and TASO Uganda, is aimed at bringing essential health information, preventive services and community-based health support closer to households.

Each parish in Kalungu has been allocated two CHEWs who will work closely with health facilities and communities to promote disease prevention, health education, early identification of health concerns and appropriate referral of patients for further care.

The programme represents an important step in strengthening Uganda’s community health system by shifting greater emphasis towards prevention, early intervention and community participation in healthcare.

Kalungu District Local Government, together with its partners, remains committed to strengthening community-based health services and ensuring that residents can access timely and quality health information and support closer to where they live.

The CHEWs programme is part of Kalungu’s broader commitment to improving health outcomes through stronger collaboration between Government, communities and development partners.
